The U.S. Refugee Program is at risk.
On January 27th, the President suspended refugee admissions. While the courts have ordered the Administration to resume resettlement, few refugees have been welcomed to the United States since President Trump took office.
Last year, the U.S. welcomed 100,034 refugees. This year, the U.S. is on track to welcome around 30,000–nearly 70% fewer refugees. Almost all of these refugees were resettled before the Trump Administration took office.
As refugee arrivals decrease, America’s resettlement infrastructure crumbles. Two of the U.S.’s ten resettlement agencies, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Episcopal Migration Ministries, have been forced to withdraw from the Refugee Program. In January of 2025, 360 resettlement offices welcomed refugees across the Country; only 286 will continue resettling refugees after October. This is likely a high estimate.
The following cities will be unable to resettle refugees after October:

Rochester, Minnesota. Columbia, Missouri. New Bern, North Carolina. Cincinnati, Ohio. Dayton, Ohio. Springfield, Oregon. Scranton, Pennsylvania. Chattanooga, Tennessee. Knoxville, Tennessee. Amarillo, Texas. Manchester Center, Vermont. Newport News, Virginia. Roanoke, Virginia. Green Bay, Wisconsin. Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
Some states will be unable to resettle refugees–statewide–after October: Alaska, Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Virginia.
Refugees deserve a resettlement program they can rely on.
