You can do what the federal government won’t: fund resettlement. Help a local office to keep their doors open and their lights on.
For the first six months of 2025, Nebraska has only resettled 285 refugees. For this same period last year, Nebraska resettled 865 refugees—a nearly 60% decrease. Most of the refugees resettled this year were likely welcomed to Nebraska before President Trump took office and implemented a resettlement ban. Declines in refugee arrivals over the next four years will permanently damage Nebraska’s resettlement program.
One of Nebraska’s resettlement offices is ending its resettlement program this fall. Declines in arrivals and federal funding have forced the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops–which oversees 60 of U.S.’s 360 resettlement offices–to withdraw from the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program this fall. Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska is one of those offices impacted by the withdrawal.
Donating to Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska can help position this office to resume resettlement should the federal landscape change.
