Last year, Maine welcomed 625 refugees. This year, Maine has welcomed 375. After the Trump Administration’s pause of resettlement, refugee arrivals have decreased significantly–with zero refugees resettled in May.
Additionally, two of Maine’s four resettlement offices are ending their resettlement programs this fall.
Declines in arrivals and federal funding have forced the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops–which oversees 60 of U.S.’s 360 resettlement offices–to withdraw from the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program this fall. Catholic Charities of Maine, with offices in Brewer and Portland, are two of those offices.
Donating to Catholic Charities of Maine can help position this office to resume resettlement should the federal landscape change.

Maine deserves a Refugee Program they can rely on.
