Last year, New Mexico welcomed 463 refugees. In the first three months of the federal fiscal year–prior to the second Trump Administration–New Mexico welcomed 53. Following the Administration’s suspension, arrivals have decreased significantly.

Declines in refugee arrivals over the next four years will permanently damage New Mexico’s resettlement program. During the last Trump Administration, almost 40% of local resettlement offices closed. New Mexico’s resettlement offices are at risk of pausing programs, laying off staff, or closing altogether.
