Last year, North Dakota welcomed 397 refugees. In the first three months of the federal fiscal year–prior to the second Trump Administration–Colorado welcomed 89. Following the Administration’s suspension, arrivals have decreased significantly.
Declines in refugee arrivals over the next four years will permanently damage North Dakota’s resettlement program. During the last Trump Administration, almost 40% of local resettlement offices closed. North Dakota’s resettlement offices are at risk of pausing programs, laying off staff, or closing altogether.
