Sioux Falls

Last year, South Dakota welcomed 391 refugees. In the first three months of the federal fiscal year–prior to the second Trump Administration–South Dakota welcomed 124. Following the Administration’s suspension, arrivals have decreased significantly.

Declines in refugee arrivals over the next four years will permanently damage South Dakota resettlement program. During the last Trump Administration, almost 40% of local resettlement offices closed. South Dakota’s resettlement offices are at risk of pausing programs, laying off staff, or closing altogether.
