Last year, Utah welcomed 1,203 refugees. This year, Utah has only welcomed approximately 450–around 60% fewer refugees. Many of these refugees were resettled before the Trump Administration took office.
One of Utah’s resettlement offices has largely ended their resettlement program.
Declines in arrivals and federal funding have forced Utah Valley Refugees to largely end their resettlement program. While Catholic Community Services was initially going to end their resettlement program–alongside the 60 other resettlement offices overseen by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops–they have secured enough private funding to continue operating for the next four years.
Utahns deserves a Refugee Program they can rely on.
